Does applying carpet protector after carpet cleaning really help carpets stay clean?
The answer is “Yes”. When carpet is manufactured the mills do an excellent job of applying protector to the carpet. It does eventually wear off, especially in high-traffic areas. Having the protector reapplied after cleaning keeps dirt and soil from attaching to the fibers so that it can be vacuumed easily and it also helps prevent spills from becoming permanent. We prefer to use a product made by Dupont. This product protects the carpet fibers from the inside out instead of just coating the outside of the fiber like a lot of other protectors. We would like to point out that there is no substitute for the factory protectants that are designed into the fiber of a factory stain resistant carpet or rug. but it will greatly reduce the ability for spots to attach to the carpet fiber and become permanent stains.
